L.A. Confidential

If you like reality, violence, and glamour, combined with a sardonic happy ending and a group of fascinating characters, then get the movie, L.A. Confidential.

Bud White (Russell Crowe) is one of the few good cops, along with Ed Exley (Guy Pearce). Bud White is a tough but disillusioned cop whose good side keeps showing by always rescuing damsels in distress. Ed Exley is an ambitious second-generation cop with a family mystery to solve. They don’t like each other, but they learn to respect each other as cops.

The story takes place in 1950s Los Angeles with the Police Dept. as the main character. This L.A. is presented as a decadent place, oozing exciting glamour and creepiness. It’s an inside confidential view of the LAPD.

Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger), a gorgeous Veronica Lake look-a-like, is an expensive call girl with a kind soul. She falls in love with Bud White. Sgt. Jack Vicennes (Kevin Spacey) with a wry sense of humor makes extra money posing for publicity shots. His co-conspirator is Sid Hudgens (Danny Devito), a columnist with no scruples. All the characters and their storylines are connected in a seedy underworld of corruption, lies, betrayal, and the darker elements of society.

Don’t spill your popcorn. You’re in for a roller coaster ride in this absorbing police soap opera.

Well worth the admission.
