Waking Life
Explore the possibilities of self discovery through the dreaming process. When do we really know when we’re awake? Does time really exist? Does creation come from imperfection?
Waking Life is visually one of the most original and trippiest films that I have ever seen. It is the latest creation of director Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused) where we explore the difference between being awake in real life and having an awareness of ourselves in the Dream State.
When do we really know when we’re awake? Does time really exist? Does creation come from imperfection and our desire to connect with one another?
Our main character travels from conversation to conversation going over these and so many more ideas I’ll let you discover for yourself.
It’s hard to believe Linklater wrote all of this dialogue, and if he did, I’m convinced he’s a genius. The only problem I can see in the film is it does not give the viewer time to come up for air. What I mean by that is by the time you’ve fully digested what the previous character has explained, you’re well into the next conversation. This goes on for quite a while, and even though I understood everything being said, I felt like I was being rushed through this process of discovery.
I would definitely suggest Waking Life to the other free thinkers of the world. Now if you have a problem accepting ideas which could be thought of as strange or radical, then you should definitely see it because it just might help you see things from a different point of view.
Remember...understanding is what makes the world go around.
