In & Out
A man on the verge of getting married starts thinking about the possibilities of homosexuality...his own! Starring Kevin Kline, Joan Cusack, Matt Dillon, Tom Selleck, Debbie Reynolds, Wilford Brimley, and Bob Newhart
Greenleaf, Indiana is a picturesque town. Everthing appears so clean and tidy. A simplistic town that welcomes some of nature's prettiest scenic views, homes, and shops.
Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline) is one of Greenleaf's finest high school English teachers, who is days away from marrying the very patient and good-hearted Emily (Joan Cusack), while his mom Berniece's (Debbie Reynolds) only request is for Greenleaf to have the wedding of the century, and his dad Frank (Wilford Brimely) is along for the ride.
Howard and Emily's wedding is not the only shindig for the town of Greenleaf this week. Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon), a former student of Mr. Brackett, has been nominated for an Academy Award for best actor--and in his acceptance speech, thanks and credits Howard Brackett as a "great gay teacher!"
Howard's life, future wife, and the town of Greenleaf, especially principal Tom Halliwell (Bob Newhart) is in shambles with the overwhelming news of Howard being gay. To make matters worse, a television reporter Peter Malloy (Tom Selleck) has arrived in Greenleaf to get the scoop on Howard's sexuality.
A dynamite cast that features such acclaimed performances by some of our past and current favorites, including Oscar-nominated Joan Cusack in her supporting actress role as Howard's fiancee Emily.
The music adds just the right ingredient to make it a grooving movie to enjoy. Sure, the Village People's over-the-top classic "Macho Man" is a necessity, but the stand-out song that gets my vote for best song/dance assemble was Diana Ross's rendition of Gloria Gaynor's hit "I Will Survive" carried out with comedic
smoothness and unstoppable rhythm by Kline himself.
Not only is In & Out an all-around fun movie, it has a message about the "inner" person, the most noticeable and important part of your personality, regardless of your sexual preference.
