Magnolia
In 1999, Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and directed a movie called Magnolia.
Let me just say if there is anyone in the world who I am jealous of, it would be him -- (should be not) Not for his previous movies (Hard Eight,(no comma here) and Boogie Nights), but for this completely under-rated masterpiece.
This movie speaks to everyone who has ever had a problem in his or her lives. Every single character in this movie has some major screw loose or has done something wrong in their lives to make them deal with other people in a very dysfunctional way.
This is also one of those movies that while you’re watching it, you’re all kinds of confused and have no idea what is going on. As the story unfolds, you come to realize everyone is connected.
I’m not even going to try to explain the frogs (you’ll understand what that means after you see the movie), but let me just tell you it’s worth the wait.
This is also one of the coolest performances I’ve ever seen come out of Tom Cruise who plays a TV infomercial sex guru. Most of the rest of the cast members you’ll notice were also in Hard Eight and Boogie Nights.
There are very few movies I cannot find anything wrong with them...this is one of them.
