Great potential storylines and superb acting by the ensemble cast, including: Bruce Willis, Albert Finney, Nick Nolte, and Omar Epps.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Now I’m not sure who originally said that, but I think they were talking about the movie, Breakfast of Champions, starring Bruce Willis, Albert Finney, Nick Nolte, and Omar Epps.
The makers of this movie really dropped the ball on this one big time, and the saddest part of it all is it had the potential to be such a damn good movie.
I’ll be honest and say I kind of liked it the first time I saw it, because at that time, I had not read the book (by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.) However, the changes they made to the story and the things they left out were just obscene.
In no way do I blame the cast for the failure of this movie because they all played excellent roles -- To see Nick Nolte dressed up in women’s clothing while running down the street is quite a spectacle.
I don’t know who’s to blame, but it has to be someone. Did the person who made those cuts from the book actually read the book? I'm not sure.
If you’re thinking of watching this movie but may have interest in reading the book, read the book first so you can compare and contrast the two slightly different, but fundamentally same works of art.
