A Life Less Ordinary
First, I want to say just make sure you watch this movie from the beginning till the end. There are some freaky scenes (good scenes nevertheless), but you won't understand why they are in there unless you have been watching it from the start.
Is there really one right person for each of us? Do we sometimes have to go through life making wrong decisions about love in order to find that missing puzzle piece to make your heart whole? And when that right person shows up do we know it, and if so did Divine intervention have a say in it?
A Life Less Ordinary is just about that. Well, with a twist, OK, lots of twists.
It's a love story about two very unusual people who might just be perfect for each other if they can stand being in the same room without insulting, yelling, or being aggravated by each other on a daily basis.
Gabriel (Dan Hedaya) works upstairs (...in Heaven, that is) and he has a serious problem. Two of his employees O'Reilly (Holly Hunter) and Jackson (Delroy Lindo) have more than a slightly blemished record when it comes to bringing the "happily ever after" part to the couples they matched up on earth.
O'Reilly and Jackson have been given what may be their final assignment if they don't make this one work.
Their assignment: bring together Robert (Ewan McGregor), a blue collar worker/aspiring trashy romance novelist who has just been given the ax at work, and by his girlfriend. He's stressed and mad, but very adorable in a pathetic way.
Then there is Celine (Cameron Diaz),
a rip roaring, get in your face, high maintenance, irrational, spoiled rich girl who likes to shoot apples off of people's heads for fun.
Divine intervention has to work overtime to get Robert and Celine to realize they are each other's missing puzzle piece to finding everlasting love.
A fantastic blend of dreamy, techno, and good old fashioned crooners are on the soundtrack which features the likes of R.E.M., Ash, Cardigans, Beck, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Elvis Presley, and Bobby Darrin to name a few.
A Life Less Ordinary is anything but ordinary. A quirky film that is loaded with lots of imagination and talent. The performances in this movie are awesome! It's a bumpy ride, but well worth it!
