Time for just a taste
After experiencing Main Street jammed with people having a good time, listening to live music and sampling the wares of 53 restaurants on a perfect day, who couldn't find some good things to say about Buffalo?
A group of travel writers visiting the city Saturday were introduced to the Taste of Buffalo 2002 and came away impressed.
Dominick A. Miserandino, editor/publisher of TheCelebritycafe.com Web site, said he plans to write a favorable article based on the experience, as well as other impressions gained during a weekend junket sponsored by the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau.
"I'm amazed at how diverse the food is and how many high-quality restaurants there are (represented)," the Long Island resident said of his first visit to Buffalo.
Miserandino said a firsthand look at the city "challenges the assumptions" that it is just an industrial city known mainly for its winters.
But despite the food tents and crowd, he couldn't help but notice a number of vacant storefronts and wondered about the economic health of the city.
But Miserandino certainly didn't go away hungry. He loved the stuffed banana pepper but found the chicken wing chowder less than impressive.
His wife and business partner, Margherita, raved about the food, as well as how well-organized the 19th annual event was.
