The American indie pop band Fun. has just released their second album titled Some Nights. Nate Ruess, who was formerly a member of the band The Format, formed the band Fun. He left Arizona to come to New York to work with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Together, they recorded their first album in August of 2009, titled Aim and Ignite.
The band’s recent popularity boost is due to the release of their single, “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monae. The single was featured in a 2012 Super Bowl commercial for Chevy Sonic, and was also covered in season 3 of Glee. The song hit the top three on The Hype Machine music blog during the first week of its release. USA Today has noted the song for having a “massive sing-along chorus.” “We Are Young” is also a track on their new album, Some Nights.
Their 11-track album was released on February 21. Most of the tracks are upbeat and fun. Fans have stated that the new album has a slightly different sound than their first one.
The album’s most popular songs are “Some Nights,” “We Are Young,” “Why Am I The One,” and “Carry On.”
While this album has many tracks that are sure to bring a smile to your face, there are some that don’t really raise the bar. The first half of the album sends the message of carrying on, marching forward, leading the pack towards happiness. Fans who are expecting the entire album to have this upbeat positive feel may be let down by some of the remaining tracks on the album.
Overall, if you are a fan of “We Are Young,” there are definitely other tracks on the album that give off the same happy feel. You will find yourself singing along to their catchy indie melodies.
