Bridgit Mendler’s Hello My Name Is is a good introduction for the actress-turned-singer.

Mendler first became popular on Disney’s hit show Wizards of Waverly Place as older brother Justin’s vampire girlfriend. She also starred in the film Lemonade Mouth as well as receiving her own show, Good Luck Charlie, on the network.

Mendler is following in the footsteps of fellow Disney stars such as Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, who have added music to their many talented pursuits.

She does an excellent job of creating a laid back, cool vibe with her music that suits her personality perfectly, however, many of her songs sound too much alike. There is definitely room for growth on her future albums.

But there are still a few songs that really caught my attention.

“Ready or Not” is a breezy, head-bopping, feel-good tune with cute lyrics such as, “I like your face, do you like my song?” It was the kind of song I could see myself singing with my girls on a sunny summer day, road-tripping with the top down.

Another stand out was “Blonde,” a seemingly humorous play on blonde stereotypes: “Everyone knows we’re a little more fun, I like to play it up like I’m dumb, du-du-du dumb,” are some of the innocent and playful lyrics. Whether you want it to or not, it gets stuck in your head!

These were good enough to hold me over for awhile. Hopefully future albums will showcase more of a variety of sounds.
