Soundgarden is back and like their lead single off the new album King Animal says, they've been away for too long. The 90's grunge rock pioneers have released King Animal this past November. Most notable about the album is it's the bands sixth studio album, but also is the band's first in 16 years. This stems from Soundgarden's breakup in 1997 due to internal strife and conflict of creative interests. This led to member's solo and side projects since, up until the band reformed in 2010 with some world tours, but needless to say, King Animal is a highly anticipated release that doesn't let down.
Soundgarden put together a very well done album with King Animal. They come back with signs of classic Soundgarden music, and infuse it with a modern rock sound. The sound is very professional and well mixed. The men have aged, but the sound and musicianship is all still there. It's like the members feed off each other and they have aged as a group. The instrumentals are on point, and the lyrics are well-versed and singer Chris Cornell still sounds great.
The lead single as mentioned earlier is "Been Away Too Long". This is an excellent single to push, with a hard rock rhythm and displays some power that Soundgarden is back and ready to rock.
The key to King Animal is that the tracks build off each other. Soundgarden displays all aspects of rock and grunge on the album to hard and quick, to the lighter songs such as "Halfway There". They execute each sound they try to showcase with precision. This is an album where I feel Soundgarden executed everything they were going for here. The members must be proud. I recommend the album. It's a solid rock album, which exceeds in professionalism and musicianship. King Animal is a fine-tuned album, and really, an excellent listen. Look to catch Soundgarden on tour promoting King Animal, and for a live experience from a band with the charisma that you just don't see enough of these days.
