Lila and Ethan: Forever and Always is the latest from New York Times and USA Today best selling young adult and new adult fiction author, Jessica Sorensen. The story continues the love story that blossomed in The Temptation of Lila and Ethan.
Lila and Ethan: Forever and Always is a short novella that gives an insight of what Lila Summers and Ethan Gregory have gone through as a couple. Now that they have declared their love and Ethan has helped Lila with her troubled past they start on a new journey. A journey that is free from pain, lies, drugs and fighting. Lila and Ethan hit the road and embrace the wilderness. Ethan’s long life trip of exploring the mountains and living a life of freedom and spontaneity is finally being fulfilled. Though in the past the journey of exploration was a trip something he would do alone until he met Lila.
Lila is thrown out of her element as they sleep in tents, bathe in the lakes, and eat out of a can. Despite not having the comfort of home and running warm water it makes it all worth it as she is close to Ethan. Living only on small and simple necessities the bond between Lila and Ethan grows stronger each day. Sleeping under the stars and admiring the beauty of nature Lila starts to question the future.
With their best friends Micha and Ella recently tying the knot, Lila starts to question if Ethan will ever propose? Lila worries that their relationship won’t last if he’s not willing to commit or talk about the future. Lila wants a sense of security but whenever she brings it up Ethan tenses and skirts around the issue. Now that Lila is bringing up the future more and more Ethan starts to evaluate himself and the relationship.
Ethan has always been anti-relationship, marriage and refuses to plan the future. He likes to live in the moment and enjoy the simple things in life. He doesn’t want to lose his freedom of doing what he wants when he wants. In his eyes marriage will force him to find a steady job, support a wife and children, and have a home. With his family dynamics he fears he will end up just like his parents. Though it is a frightening thought Ethan realizes he could lose something so important to him, Lila. Ethan wakes up from his own thoughts that torment him and finds the clarity he needs.
