Another Oz Talks Diet

Avoid the Freshman 15 with 'The Dorm Room Diet'

Ah, yes. The dreaded Freshman 15. You all know about it. You may have experienced it for yourself. Those unwanted 15 pounds you gained as a college freshman. Well, you can do something about them.

Moms know that those pounds are a result of sons and daughters making their own food choices. Gone are the parental exhortations to eat your vegetables. Instead, it's eat anything you want because Mom's not watching.

Dr. Oz's Daughter

Dr. Mehmet Oz's 24-year-old daughter has a solution. Daphne Oz, who is not a doctor, has updated her bestselling The Dorm Room Diet. She combines her personal experiences with sound nutritional and exercise advice in order to help teen readers avoid the unwanted weight gain.

Oz makes the point that traditional diet books were aimed at "middle-aged housewives with a lot of time on their hands" so they could spend it shopping and cooking esoteric meals which make up fad diets. (Don't know in which universe Ms. Oz lives, but it's certainly different from mine.)

Who Benefits?

She goes on to say that her book is aimed at teenagers who have limited time and money. (Hmm. That's me. Maybe I'm a teen and didn't know it?)

All editorial comments aside, if you're college-bound or the mother of a teen, this book, with a foreword written by Dr. Mehmet Oz, may help teach the balance needed between living the good life and still maintaining a healthy weight.
