I have always thought of 'Art' as being like a collection of family photos that inspire reminiscences of both time and place. 'This is a picture taken at Uncle Hieronymus's New Years Eve party last year,' or 'Look, here's one Samba took of Mom and Dad.'

In his book, The World of Art, Dr. Robert Belton has assembled artworks in a just such a family album fashion--the family of humanity. The main pages are composed of large single pictures and small descriptions for historical and style placement purposes.

Here's a thought, buy this book for the best friend you have and keep it at your house so they can stay with you a little longer. I think that's what this volume was intended to be, a book for enjoyment. This is my family! Take or leave it!
