Balls of Fury

Andrew Randall
This comedy profiles one man's journey back to ping-pong glory.

Balls of Fury is a comedic romp about the world of ping-pong and an underground criminal enterprise.

Randy Daytona, played by Dan Fogler, is a washed-up former Olympic ping-pong player, working in a dinner theater. He is recruited by FBI Agent Rodriguez, played by George Lopez, to infiltrate the underground network of Master Feng, played by Christopher Walken, by participating in a ping-pong tournament. He must train under a blind man named Wong, played by James Hong, before he takes part in a battle that may cost him his life.

The acting of Dan Fogler as Randy Daytona was actually delightful. I had never seen Fogler in anything prior and his performance in this film was a pleasant surprise. I loved the way he interacted with the other characters, especially James Hong. The two seemed to feed off of each other and their comedic timing was excellent.

This film's downfall is really its plot. I don't see how an underground world of ping-pong is either plausible or interesting in the least. The only thing that really kept me watching this movie was the hilarious dialogue. The situations it was used in, were not really funny at all.

I'd only recommend this film to someone looking for a cheap laugh and not someone looking for a genuinely funny comedy.
