Basil Poledouris

The Hunt for Red October was one of the last of the Cold War action thrillers. The film's music is a fine mix of choral and action music composed by Basil Poledouris. The opening men's chorus sings in Russian for a stunning beginning to the film. It's much more memorable than the other submarine action film Crimson Tide and well worth revisiting. Many have said that this is the soundtrack for those who don't like soundtracks but that is really not true at all. Red October is a well loved score that kicked off the 1990's and is proof that Basil Poledouris is one of the best in his profession.
