Stars Go Dim (SGD) released an EP in October 2011 titled Between Here And Now, their first release since their studio album Love Gone Mad came out in 2009. The EP has seven songs on it, and has an uplifting sound all throughout. The smooth vocals combined with the piano and guitar produce a warm sound that has a heart-warming effect on the listener. The songs take from a variety of musical influences, and the songs are very unique and original.
The group is typically known as a pop-rock group, though this EP branches out from that quite a bit. The pop influence is noticeable, as well as some r&b influence. Various styles are present in the varied and flowing songs. The EP is a little more mainstream and a little less rock influenced then their previous release. This EP may be the indicator of the band's shift in direction.
Two of the songs off of the EP, “Like I Mean It” and “Hesitate”, were released as singles in 2011 prior to the EP's release.
The Song which gives the EP it's name, “Between Here and Now”, still incorporates a noticeable rock influence, with strong guitar throughout and upbeat drums. The vocals are more Christian rock sounding, and indeed the song does seem to allude to a greater existence. But whether or not the song has religious basis, it is a very positive and uplifting song, with a message of perseverance and faith in yourself.
All around, the album is up-beat and positive, and well worth a listen, whether you're already an SGD fan of if you're just looking for some new music to add to your collection.
