'Bright Lights Bigger City' Single: Review

If Cee Lo Green's now famously-named "F**k You" is any indication, the man is a very great talent. He can combine clever lyrics with good production and composition to create good songs that still maintain mainstream pop sensibilities.

"Bright Lights Bigger City," now with a re-release that contains Wiz Khalifa as a guest star, is no exception. The music is like an '80s throwback infused with modern pop and soul, giving the best of several different genres. Cee Lo Green's vocals are unique, but strong and well-suited to his music.

The lyrics are also fun and intelligent; most pop stars who sing about wealth and partying tend to come off as arrogant people you actually don't want to party with. Cee Lo, on the other hand, sounds confident without being insulting. "And it may be just more of the same/but sometimes I wanna go where everyone knows your name"...what's wonderful about those lines is that it acknowledges the routine nature of parties and party songs while still embracing it.

If there's one problem with the re-release, it's Wiz Khalifa. Wiz Khalifa is a rapper, which clashes with the '80s vibe of the song, and he interrupts what would otherwise be an immersive instrumental section and bridge.
