Broken (and other rogue states)

If you haven't heard of country v?rit?, then you probably don't know of Luke Doucet. Doucet, also lead singer of indie-rock band Veal, says to hell with conventional genre lines and is creating one all by himself. His second solo album, Broken (and other rogue states), is mellow and innovative, while also evoking feelings of nostalgia.

Doucet's soft and raspy voice glides from track to track, backed by some great electric guitar solos ("Brother") and 60's-style background vocals ("It's Not the Liquor I Miss" and "Free"). Broken is a little bit country and a little bit alt rock, but totally a disc that you want someplace on your shelf.

If you are thinking about expanding your musical tastes or picking up something a bit different, Broken is a great place to start. Luke Doucet may be the best artist you aren't listening to right now.
