Broken Things

An outcry to the Lord for answers and maybe redemption summarizes Kim Hill's album, "Broken Things." Much of the album includes superb acoustic guitar work and lyrics about "her." One could guess Hill is asking to be forgiven by God since many of the tracks speak about "her" and "her relationship to Him." "Here Inside of Me," is a solid example with lyrics like, "I'm so small at least that's what I feel like next to God." "A Million Pieces," has a more pop-flavored beat but the lyrics still give out a howl for some sort of otherworldly sign. "Lover of My Soul," has an original sounding guitar and talks about "stumbling through the darkest night hoping for the morning light, praying for the courage to believe." Listeners who may be having the same devotional struggle whether to believe or not could be drawn into this album and artist because of their like minds. "Wide," brings drums into the mix and talks about righteous issues such as "fire, brimstone and sin." "You Don't Belong Here," talks about prejudice. A piercing lyric in this song that could be viewed as controversial is, "Hey you with the rainbow flag. I can hear them say, you don't belong here, not if you're gay." All in all, no matter who you are, if you have questions about God's love and want to hear music by an artist who has the same conflicting notions as you, you won't feel as lonesome listening to Kim Hill's "Broken Things." This album just might be able to heal you through song.
