The Cat Empire

A hodgepodge of hip-hop, big band sound, reggae and old-fashioned dance makes up the self-titled album from The Cat Empire. The first track has a quick reggae twang to it and talks about the current state of the world and how dangerous it is with lyrics like, "This is a song that came upon me one night/I thought about my friends then I wrote this declaration just in case the world ends." The second track has a big band orchestra-like sound to it, much different from the reggae beat of the previous track. It expounds about a certain female and the feelings the vocalist has upon seeing her, with lyrics like, "I saw that sexy face come towards me, with a little cheeky smile." The third track shifts tones yet again and is more of a slow groove with a hip-hop tone to it, complete with cymbals and lyrics like, "I'm searchin' in the night." The fourth track modifies the tone once again for more of a ska/electronica vibe, with lyrics like, "Sitting in your room/days like these." It even has a record scratching in the background, that was so commonplace in the rise of rap and hip-hop. For a dash of every type of musical genre, the self-titled album from The Cat Empire gives a varied display for all music lovers to enjoy.
