Christmas Vacation
All Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to do is celebrate the Christmas holiday with good family and fun. However, the Christmas spirit seems to be out to get him in this hilarious comedy about everything that could possibly go wrong during the holiday season. From the search for the Christmas tree, to putting up the lights, to relatives, to the Christmas bonus that every employee hopes for, Clark cannot seem to catch a break. Nonetheless he remains optimistic and hopeful the entire time, transforming what would be a tragic situation into one that the audience is able to find humor in. It is also through all of his troubles that Clark is able to see what his own true meaning of Christmas is. The entire film will have you smiling, but the ending will warm your heart and get you ready for the holiday season.
Although all National Lampoon movies are humorous in some way, "Christmas Vacation" is in my opinion the best one. How could you not love every minute of Clark's adventure to create the perfect holiday for his family? And by loving his attempts, the audience ends up loving Clark and being thankful that there are people in this world like him; those who help spark the holiday spirit in everyone. Chevy Chase is an amazing comedian, as well, and becomes the character of Clark. Beverly D'Angelo, who plays Ellen Griswold, adds to the humor with her casual but comical remarks that support her husband through every moment of his journey (including when he's about to be arrested). This film, although almost 20-years-old, will never lose its luster to the audience because it incorporates all that we hope for during the holiday season.
