Dance Flick

Though not as good at the Wayans Brothers' original parody film, "Scary Movie," "Dance Flick" gives audiences many more laughs than the latest attempts to capitalize on the genre like "Date Movie" and "Disaster Movie." Keenan Ivory Wayans and Shawn Wayans are back behind the scenes as writers after starring and producing the original "Scary Movie." Damien Wayans directs and newcomer Damon Wayans Jr. stars as Thomas Uncles.

Thomas is a street dancer from the dangerous side of town who owes a bad guy some money and isn't sure how to get it. He meets the new girl in town, Megan, played by Shoshana Bush. The two begin teaching each other about dance, life and love and ultimately compete in a huge dance competition to prove their talent and get the money.

It's a simple plot, but these movies aren't about storylines or character growth, so don't waste your money if that's what you're looking for. The movie mercilessly mocks and pokes fun at the dance movie genre including the recent hits "Step Up" and "Stomp the Yard" as well as classics like "Flashdance." Other popular films are parodied too like "Juno" and "Twilight." Some jokes are distasteful and crude and just fall flat, but most of the segments nodding to previous films deserve a chuckle or two.

The dance movie genre does not seem to be losing momentum and a parody like this one points out the ridiculous and cheesy points we all realize but might not focus on.

David Alan Grier, Amy Sedaris and Chris Elliott all lend their support with small yet distinguishable characters.

If you're looking for mindless entertainment without depth or a care about reality, "Dance Flick" might make you laugh out loud a couple of times and awaken your love of a favorite corny dance movie.
