Edge of Darkness

Mel Gibson is pushed to the edge in the action movie, Edge of Darkness. The actor portrays a policeman bent on finding the man who murdered his daughter. Craven (Gibson) will take any bullet, wrestle any officials and even shoot any target that stands in the way of his revenge.

The plot is enticing; the action is unstoppable. Only complaints: The movie runs too fast, yet takes too long. Watching the movie is like going along a dirt road that is both adventurous and uncomfortable.

So hold on because there are a couple of bumps; the first, being the abrupt murder of Craven’s daughter. The viewer does not know who she is, what she does or even the nature of her relationship with Craven.

The plot would have been more engaging if it were given time to develop. However, it is expected for the movie to be a little jumpy since it was derived from a 1985 TV miniseries. Directors were bound to cut out more than put in, given the movie’s 1 hour and 48 minute running time.

The movie succeeds in bringing forth exciting action scenes and humorous scenarios. Craven wrestles a man to the ground demanding answers about his daughter’s murder. “She wouldn’t want me to hit you again, but then again she is not alive you son of a . . .” said Craven as he repeatedly punched and pounded an accomplice to his daughter’s murder. The ending is incredible; it makes up for any discrepancies mentioned earlier.

Edge of Darkness is definitely worth watching, but be prepared for the jumps and cracks you may encounter on the way to its happily-ever-after.
