In the follow-up to her best seller, 'The Devil Wears Prada,' Weisberger again puts her normal girl heroine in a strange environment where she scrambles to fit in and get by.
Bette quits her investment banking job of five years on a whim, with no other career prospects. Once her savings start to dip after about a month of carefree unemployment, she takes her columnist uncle up on an offer to call in a favor for a job with a former assistant turned founder of the hottest up-and-coming PR firm in New York City. She quickly gets caught up in her new job with days at the office and required nights at clubs, but when an anonymous gossip blogger tracks her relationship (that doesn't really exist) with a hot British playboy (who she's sure is gay), giving the firm welcomed publicity, she becomes overwhelmed.
One isn't able to forget that Weisberger also authored 'The Devil Wears Prada' as she sticks to the bones of her first book's plot: A normal girl is thrown into a fast-paced glamorous world, has her doubts and considers quitting. But this time around the average girl is placed into an industry that can be as cruel and unforgiving as fashion journalism, except much more visible to the public.
Readers who loved Weisberger's first novel won't be disappointed with a similar plot line of glitz, glamour and disillusionment.
