Fever Pitch

Fever Pitch is a must read for soccer fans and especially Arsenal Football Club enthusiasts. Although autobiographical, the amazing part about this book is that every event in the main characters’ life is connected with a football game. The style of writing of Nick Hornby is a bit cynical but if you enjoy a small dose of bitter humor and negative facts turned funny with your readings, then this is a book for you.

Just another diary type of book, one might say, but the short, to the point and full of life mixed up read with soccer entries make a nice combination. The feelings of true fans are very well detailed and the way they influence the life of the main character as well as those around him make a powerful statement about the random way in which lives are influenced. A perfectly normal person at first sight, the main character is living his typical British existence with the single exception that nothing in the world matters to him more than the football events. It is a strange addiction but maybe more powerful than any other drug.

Moreover, the book is interesting as football club history but also as a psychological novel as it accurately presents the state of mind of sports fans. With a lot of football trivia presented in a not at all boring manner, this particular book will pleasantly surprise you with its charm and wittiness.
