Foundations
Jodi Proznick Quartet's jazz album, Foundations, could very well lay the foundations to love of jazz, for a person new to the genre.
The fun thing about jazz is that the listener never knows where the song is going to go next. However, this can get annoying, or hard-to-follow, for new listeners who can have a hard time finding the beauty in what sounds like noise. The Vancouver-based jazz artist has put together a wonderful jazz album that has the backings of jazz, but is easy to follow for the novice jazz listener.
Many songs on Foundations are easy to follow and tap your foot with, but they do not travel from the root of jazz. The bass, piano, trumpet, and smooth drums are all the necessary elements for a jazz quartet and Proznick's album provides them all. Many of the songs on the album also keep an up-tempo feel which makes it easier to follow...at least for this listener.
For someone looking to get a start into listening to jazz, Foundations is a perfect album with which to start.
