The Fray 'Fighter' review

Chelsea Lewis

The Fray is about to release their next album, Scars and Stories, and the band has released another single off of their upcoming album. The Fray first released the single, “Heartbeat” and now has released their next single, “The Fighter.”

The single starts out with Isaac Slade telling a story. Slade has the ability to tell an entire novel of a story in one song. Slade’s vocals present a beautiful yet haunting sound in every breath. The song slowly builds up to the chorus. The chorus showcases Slade’s lyrical story telling and captures his passion as a musician.

The Fray leaves everything on the table when they perform and they leave everything on the table when the band records an album. That passion and emotion is clear from the very first note of “The Fighter.”

The lyrics explain that passion between two protagonists who are featured in the song that in the end end up alone, “Loneliness has always been with me, with me. Maybe we were meant to be on our own. But I gotta try or it will destroy me, 'Cause baby we don't have to be all alone.” The Fray has a way of telling an individual story during their verses and then the band broadens the scope in the chorus to connect with everyone.

The new album, Scars and Stories feels like a new chapter for the Fray. When at the same time, “The Fighter,” keeps the traditional sound of the Fray alive. What is so impressive about the Fray is their ability to keep their sound the similar while constantly maturing.

If these singles are any indication of the direction of the entire album, fans and audiences should not be disappointed when Scars and Stories is released next year.
