Liquor and Poker

Girls Got Rhythm's "Liquor and Poker" is a gallant try for a female hard rock band to wail like their male counterparts do, but some of the lyrics might turn off genuine rock ïn' roll fans. The first track has the ladies harmonizing along with clever electric guitar work. It screams "fight song" to a T and is the ideal song to jam with your best girlfriends. The second track introduces the shaker and is a defiant one with the female vocalist really bellowing such lyrics as, "We gave him hell." The third track sounds a little more like garden variety rock ïn' roll with characteristic electric guitar riffs. The fourth track has a lofty drum build up but off ?the-wall lyrics like, "She told me I would meet girls like you, she also told me to stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch." The fifth track continues with the drums and electric guitar and seems to be sending a directive to a lover with lines like, "I really love you baby, I love what you got, let's get together, we can get hot." The seventh track has lyrics that are quite unnerving and if listeners liked this album they might be sickened by the song's opening line, "Well, I got something to say, I killed a baby today." All in all, Girls Got Rhythm gives it their best shot as a rockin' hard rock band in the footprints of their macho complements and on some tracks they prevail while they fall flat on others.
