Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle

Sean Bohrman
The funniest movie of 2004 is now the funniest DVD of 2005.

Have you ever wanted something so bad you could taste it? Harold and Kumar have. They've got hamburgers on their minds and nothing is going to stop them from reaching their tasty destination. From the advertisements it's easy to dismiss "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" as your typical stoner comedy. Two guys getting stoned and looking for munchies, yes, but throw in a cheetah, a boil-faced man named Freak Show and a bunch of tiny burgers and you've got yourself a recipe for success.

This was the funniest movie I saw of 2004 and now it's the funniest DVD of 2005. Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) make one of the most hilarious on-screen duos in recent memory. They play two stoners who, as the title of the film states, go to White Castle. But underneath all of the weed jokes and potty humor lies a film that touches upon racial stereotypes and the American dream. But mostly it's all farts and giggles.

The DVD is one of the most unique I've seen. The selection screen is completely original with Harold and Kumar telling, commanding and finally begging the viewer to make a selection. The extras are just as funny as the film itself, with interviews, deleted scenes, documentaries, music videos and more. It also features three different commentaries: one with the director and cast, one with the writers and one "extreme" commentary that features a very minor, but very extreme character.

So if you've got the munchies for the funnies, you can't get any higher than "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle."
