Hoots and Hellmouth

Hoots and Hellmouth is the self-titled debut album from roots rockers Hoots and Hellmouth.

"Want On Nothing," a fast-paced, tent revival-sounding song, starts off this album with great energy. This song sets the tone for the rest of the album, letting the listener know they're in for a toe-tapping good time.

"Backwoods Don't Lie" slows things down a bit, as the song starts simply with vocals and a lazy guitar line. However, the song gets more complex, with a group of female voices joining in, as well as several other stringed instruments. The song dials back down, ending with just vocals, piano and guitar. It is a beautiful arrangement, which could win anyone over.

"West of Where the Sun Goes Down," the final track on the album, is arguably the best track on the album. Its combination of keyboard and guitar, as well as the lively chorus, is a perfect way to close the album. The vocals are incredible, filled with emotion and depth.

I would recommend this album to any fan of roots, bluegrass or folk music; this group does not disappoint.
