an intimate performance of The Fray....

On Friday evening, January 20th, The Fray had a performance as part of IHeartRadio Live, a Clear Channel entertainment production.

The intimate IHeartRadio theater in TriBeca presented by PC Richard and Sons holds a crowd of 200 people, giving fans the opportunity to be up close to their favorite artists. Tickets cannot be purchased but some can be won through Clear Channel’s radio stations. Z100’s JJ was there to introduce The Fray.

Though the set was a short one, only seven songs long and a little over a half hour in length, it combined a sampling of their new album and the best of their well known hits.

They opened the performance with a new song, “Turn Me On.” This is from their upcoming album Scars and Stories which will be released on February 7th. In this small venue, the sound was crisp. It allowed you to appreciate the rich vocal quality of lead singer Issac Slade. Slade was supported by Joe King on backup vocals and rhythm guitar, David Welsh on lead guitar, and Ben Wysocki on percussion.

"Turn Me On" was followed up by their recently released single, “Heartbeat” also from the new album. Their live performance was a little slower and more stripped down than the release. Either way it is catchy, with great lyrics, qualities to be a hit.

Next was one of their popular songs “Over my Head (Cable Car)" with Slade on guitar rather than piano. He then returned to the piano and the sound fans have come to love, to sing another new song “Run for Your Life.”

The Fray also performed “You Found Me,” “How to Save a Life” sans piano, fresh and simple with guitar, and ended with another beautiful new song called “Be Still.”

After almost 10 years of performing, this preview of their upcoming album shows there is still much more to look forward to from The Fray.
