I think my life was better off before listening to the Humanist EP by Derek Jordan. I hope that Derek Jordan is a nice guy and I wish him the best of luck in pursuing a music career, but this EP only proves the adage that there is a market of everything. Anything.
Derek Jordan claims to be inventing a new genre, but I’m not sure that there’s room for the poorly-sung-poorly-written-but-decently-produced genre. With lyrics like “My blood is thicker than the human race” it just sounds like someone’s trying a little too hard to not fit into a mold, and in turn it does exactly that and fits in the same mold as thousands of other bands.
I’m sure Derek is a good musician, but I just wish he would choose to write better songs. He thinks that he’s writing these psychologically interesting and unique songs, but it doesn’t seem like he’s every taken a psychology class, and if he has it was only psych 101.
But I digress, I hope Derek can make a living doing what he loves, and if that’s music, then keep on writing.
