The International is a 2009 thriller based on a pair that investigates corruption within a banking institution. The film stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. The basis of the plot includes Interpol agent Louis Salinger (Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Watts) who are determined to bring justice to one of the world's most powerful banks, the International Bank of Business and Credit which funds terrorist activities.
"The International" starts out very level but along the way develops into intense and extended scenes, including a bloody gunfight among the Guggenheim Museum. Director Tom Tykwer's style makes "The International" worth seeing over anything else. Critics noted on Tykwer's "astute eye for public space." As Tykwer directs the actors through intense architectural shapes, his visual sense creates more tension and adds much more excitement and thrill to the plot.
The movie, at 180 minutes, is one that, although it may be exciting to watch, it won't leave much of a lasting impression. If you love Clive Owen, this film is perfect for you because the actor is in almost every scene and has a lot of close-ups. Yet, if you are seeing this film for Naomi Watts, you may be disappointed as her role seems to be underwritten.
"The International" is now available on DVD.
