J. Dash's debut album: Tabloid Truth

John-Paul Helk

On January 31, up and coming musician J. Dash will release his much-anticipated album Tabloid Truth. The debut single “WOP” which was released last year has already garnered quite a following, already surpassing 250,000 sales. The physical album will only be available at Wal-Mart, but the digital version will be available on i-tunes and other providers.

J. Dash is much more than just a rapper. He can truly be called an accomplished musician. He is a classically trained pianist and has played with blues and jazz bands. His knowledge of and skill with music are evident in his songs.

The album starts with the song “Life”, a poetic and powerful beginning to the album. Lyrically the song is very well written. The song switches back and forth between and melodic and gentle style that conveys the more emotional parts of the song and a fast paced bass driven middle section. This is true of multiple songs on the album, including the title song, “Tabloid Truth”. J. Dash shows a depth and range uncommon in the industry. He knows music, and creates excellent musical compliments to his well crafted lyrics.

J. Dash manages to create thoughtful pieces without losing the appeal to the masses. The songs are catchy and memorable, with very danceable beats and an enjoyable sound. The listener can enjoy the songs just on the surface, but a more discriminatory listener can look for deeper meaning and more subtle musical nuances and find them as well.

Some songs on the album, such as “WOP,” which has already found remarkable success, have the potential to become radio and club hits with a catchy and repetitive refrain and perfect beat for the club scene. “Transformer” has this type of mass appeal. But even songs such as these that lack a deeper emotional element show a mastery of musical style and promise not to disappoint even the most seasoned fan of the genre.

J. Dash has produced a very promising album in Tabloid Truth. The album is sure to find a place in the collections of any who hear it.
