Jeremih, known for his single, “Birthday Sex,” released in 2009, stripped down and covered Adele’s song, “Rumour,” off her most recently released album, 21. In an almost spooky way, Jeremih represents the song with the same style as Adele. His voice takes on the same tone which shocked me at first.
The Chicago, Illinois born and raised artist plays the drums and sings into his microphone, as he smoothly transitions into a mashup of “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice, “Under Pressure” by Queen, a quick reference to “Down on Me” by Jeremih featuring 50 Cent, and back into “Rumour.”
The effort and concentration on style Jeremih puts into this cover and mashup, makes me wonder what his true genre of passion is. Does he really like insensitively rapping about women grinding on his lap or would he rather show his sensitive side by singing soulful songs such as “Rumour”? Either way, I hope to hear more covers like this.
