Jerry Goldsmith may be gone but his importance to the art of scoring movies will never be lost. Tora! Tora! Tora! is an orchestral masterpiece written for this classic picture, about the attack on Pearl Harbor. The magazine Film Score Monthly has issued many limited run soundtrack CDs over the past few years and Tora is one of their best issues. Goldsmith's music is tragic and dark, focusing more on the Japanese side of the war. The opening music captures the anguish of the Japanese and the foreboding event that will bring the United States into World War II. Fascinating uses of percussion, electronics and traditional Japanese intruments are scattered throughout the score. The liner notes are very informative. Highly recommended.
