Jill Zarin's 'Secrets of a Jewish Mother: Real Advice, Real Family, Real Love' Book Review

Jackie Morrison
Dishing on Jewish Maternal Wisdom

Jill Zarin, former star of The Real Housewives of New York City, released this book with her mother, Gloria Kamen, and sister, Lisa Wexler. Zarin is very close to her mom and is herself a protective mother to her own daughter and step-daughter. Kamen is the Jewish matriarch of her clan and dishes with her daughters on her own brand of maternal wisdom. If you are a fan of Zarin, this will reveal a lot of her upbringing and how her personality was shaped.

Jewish mothers are often depicted as overprotective but this book attempts to show more to them than that. All mothers worry and Jewish mothers do focus on their children a lot. Even in the modern world of New York City, traditions die hard when it comes to home and hearth and a Jewish mother. I found this book to be distinctly New York in its style but, regardless of where you live, it is enjoyable to read.

Zarin is now off her reality show but may resurface with Patti Stanger sometime soon. Or perhaps get a show with her mom and sister. Zarin has a side to her that we don’t see much of and that is how she dearly loves her family. Zarin fans would only be too happy to see this book become the basis of a new reality show.
