I had mixed feelings when it came to this album. On the one hand I enjoy the sensual rhythms of songs like "Rio" and "Mandelay Bay," songs that evoke images of Latin America and the South Pacific. I also found Butler's voice delightful on tracks like "Fire and Rain" and "Baby Love." However, as often jazz albums do, Jonathan has a bit of that "Dentist Office" vibe, such as on tracks like "Sweet Island Love." Overall, I think this album would be stronger if more tracks featured Butler's vocals. While the instrumentals are decent, his voice is what makes them stand out from other jazz albums on the shelf.
