Ernest R. Dickerson makes his directorial debut with "Juice," a 1992 drama about four friends growing up in Harlem. Dickerson had been known as a cinematographer, mainly for his collaborations with Spike Lee.
"Juice" is also the first starring role for Tupac Shakur. Shakur plays the role of Bishop, a violent and selfish young man who does not know the line between bravery and foolishness. Shakur delivers an outstanding performance and carries the film.
As far as early 90's urban tales go, this film is watchable and easy to relate to. The theme of the movie is the friendship among the "wrecking crew," as they call themselves, and their differing points of view as they get older. "Juice" is entertaining and worth watching.
