Juno - Original Soundtrack

Mindy Munizaga

This indie film gem of 2007 comes with a soundtrack worthy of just as much praise. The album is an agreeable mix of folk-indie songs, a few classic songs and several tracks by the idiosyncratic Kimya Dawson. The vibe of the soundtrack is a good reflection of the film: gentle, smart and sentimental.

For most listeners this album will be their first exposure to several of the performers, and they'll be charmed by the sunny, whimsical tunes of these quirky, folk-indie artists. Not to alienate those who are less than hip, the album also contains established artists and songs that help to break up the thematic repetitiveness of the soundtrack. Songs such as "Expectations" by Belle and Sebastian and "A Well Respected Man" by The Kinks speed the pace of the album at just the right points and are thoughtfully chosen to not seem out of place. Clearly, this killer soundtrack has been very carefully put together and most reviews of the movie mention it specifically. A charming companion to the film, deceptively simple and pleasant, this album is sure to impress.

Stand out tracks: "Expectations," "Sea of Love" and "Anyone Else But You."
