The music video for country band Lady Antebellum’s single, “Just a Kiss,” is a decent story that suits the song lyrics and serves its purpose.
Scenes of the Lady Antebellum band members traveling and singing together in a train station are interspersed with scenes of a separated couple traveling and communicating. There are pretty shots of famous tourist attractions like the Louvre Museum and the Big Ben, everyone looks clean and pretty, and all the music and scenes are performed with the requisite facial expressions for a country love song.
It even has product placement, not a lot of product placement, but the advertising that is there is fairly blatant. An iPad shows up not even 20 seconds into the video and gets nearly 20 seconds of screen time before the vocals even start. It has at least one more scene before the end of the video, and the last scene has a character pull out what looks suspiciously like an iPad with a black cover. Product placement isn’t inherently a bad thing, but in this video it only serves to add to the glossy, commercialized package.
The main scene of note is the ending, where it's revealed that the main character has been dreaming about traveling with a boyfriend. She wakes up and meets a guy on her bus who looks suspiciously like the guy in her dreams and iPad video. So…is the ending implying that the girl is psychic and has prophetic dreams? It’s rather melodramatic and soap-opera-esque, but that could be the target demographic’s cup of tea.
