In the last episode, Boyd's lackey Devil seemed upset about the money situation and the lack of action. To start of this episode, he is sitting on the porch of a house, waiting to be seen by the "boss". That boss turns out to Quarles, who offers Devil the chance a one time only offer to improve his situation by working for him.
Cut to the prison yard and we see Dickie Bennett and Dewey Crowe getting the crap kicked out of them. When they in the infirmary, the guard after Dickie's money, Ash, is upset because Dewey wasn't supposed to be part of this escape plan. Lance, the prison medic, also in on the plan, puts Dewey under and they carry out their plan.
Raylan goes to the prison and interrogates Lance, who says he got jumped and injured when Dickie escaped in the coroner's van. The van comes to a stop in the woods outside Harlan, and Ash shoots the driver in the head. He lets Dickie and Dewey out of the body bags they were smuggled out in. Lance takes Dewey to this base of operations, a cheap motel, and Ash takes Dickie to go get the money.
Raylan goes and talks to Loretta McCready, who was very close with Mags Bennett until she realized Mags killed her dad, and when asked about the money stashed away, she says she might know who has it: Limehouse.
Raylan and Rachel arrive at Limehouse's barbeque and ask him about the money. He plays it off like he doesn't know what they're talking about. Raylan wants to set up roadblocks around Harlan just in case Limehouse does try to get the money to Dickie somehow. As Raylan is talking to local police, Ash and Dickie as driving up to Limehouse's, but turn around when they see the cowboy hat.
Ash brings Dickie to the motel, and has him call Limehouse to set up a new place to drop the money. Limehouse settles on Mags' old store.
Devil returns to Harlan and walks into the bar where Boyd and Johnny are. Devil is handed a small stack of money, and asks Boyd when the big score is going to come in. All Boyd can answer with is in time. Raylan comes into the bar and tells the criminals an anecdote of how Limehouse had knocked the hell out of Arlo back in the day, and that Limehouse played it like he didn't remember Raylan. Then he tells Boyd about Dickie breaking out. Boyd, ever the good friend to Raylan, suggests he take a closer look at the medic Lance.
After Raylan leaves, Devil corners Johnny, asking about the low payments, and seems to suggest that Johnny should join him in his mutiny against Boyd. He fills him in on the deal Quarles offered as well.
Based on Boyd's tip, Raylan is parked outside the motel Dickie and Dewey are being kept when he sees Ash walking back to the room. Ash drops all the food he's carrying and pulls his gun out. Raylan guns it, and runs him over, then backs over him again. Before checking on Ash, Raylan goes into the room and sees a cigarette still burning, but no Dickie, Dewey or anyone else. As he exits the room, a van and a pickup peel out of the parking lot.
Ash tells Raylan what he wants to know: Limehouse is going to be dropping the money at Mags' store where Dickie will meet him.
Dickie is forced into the store at gunpoint by Combs and Junior, two men helping out Ash and Lance who have a grudge against the Bennetts from the Black Pike deal from last season. Dickie finds a cooler that contains the money behind a wall, and as he's opening it, both Combs and Junior are shot and killed. Limehouse and one of his men step out holding shotguns. He tells Dickie he had to take an underground railroad to avoid the checkpoints.
Dickie goes and finally opens the cooler only to see it a lot lighter than it should be. He says there should be $3 million in there, but Limehouse tells him that Mags had spent most of it to buy up property for the Black Pike deal. Dickie refuses to accept only $46,000 and pushes the money back to Limehouse, just asking for a shotgun in return.
After Limehouse leaves, Raylan pulls up to the store and hears gunshots from inside. Dickie calmly surrenders, and Raylan wonders where Dewey could be. Well, Dewey has been taped to a chair by Lance who seems about ready to harvest his organs. Didn't see that coming as a story arc for this season.
Back at Johnny's bar, Devil and Johnny go up to Boyd to stage their apparent mutiny. Devil says it's been a long time coming, and as he pulls his gun on Boyd, Boyd asks Devil how he thought he could pull this off? Johnny pulls his gun on Devil, and Boyd takes his out from under the table and shoots Devil in the chest. As Devil lay on the floor dying, Boyd tells Devil that even though he made it back from this situation, Devil surely won't. Boyd shoots him in the head as the episode ends.
