Your average album is essentially made of two components...music and lyrics. When it comes to the "music" part, Killohead, the new album by RED i CLAN, isn't bad. It's like a blend of drum beats, guitars and electronica synths that often gives one an urge to groove...as on the opener, "Jack the Sound." The album's success here is probably due in large part to the band's main creative member, Sor, a classically trained musician who also played in rock bands and spent some time as a DJ. Lyrically, however, the nine-track Killohead falls short. "Superstar," for example, may wear on one's nerves with its heavily repetitive chorus. Those who do not like hearing explicit language in their music would also do well to stay away from this album. RED i CLAN drops the F-bomb several times on "Superstar" and swearing is also featured in the lyrics of "Siren Song," "Rusted Needle Injection" and "Loose Change." RED i CLAN's MySpace page says the band "grew from the need to make something new, yet still edgy." The explicit language may have fulfilled the "edgy" part, but in this day and age, swearing isn't new. Killohead will be released April 29.
