League of Extraordinary Gentleman, The

By Lynda Dale MacLean,
An extraordinary race of superheroes on a mission for mankind, and themselves.
Author Rating:
3.0 Stars - It's Good

The story line is most appealing, to have the recruiter, a man who goes by the name M. (Richard Roxburgh) seeking out Allan Quatermain (Sean Connery), the greatest adventurer that our world has ever known, be the man to help bring together the most powerful race of superheroes who have the most tortured, beguiling, and amazing powers, come together as a team. They must travel to Venice, Italy where world leaders are meeting for a conference to stop the Phantom from sinking the city and ending the life of all who exist there. Among the many dangerous and challenging obstacles to overcome, this mission has a timeline of only nine hours or the world will encounter the most devastating loss ever faced.

The elite group consists of sexy and well-equipped-to-defend-her-turf vampiress, Mina Harker (Peta Wilson); the dashing and ageless Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend); the man who's there, but invisible (Tony Curran); the split personality of a genius and mad man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Jason Flemyng); American icon and super agent, Tom Sawyer (Shane West); and the God of the sea, Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shan). In this extraordinary league, those who suffer with haunting reminders of their marked pasts must trust the other members in order for their mission to succeed, and give their troubled and scarred lives a chance at a promising new life, in return for their heroism.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is entertaining, campy, and a visual treat of special effects wrapped in an interesting package that takes you on an exciting ride, but with the want of just a little more information from every character.

My favorite was Dorian Gray, he's just so sumptuous and so tempting; so not the right one to choose, but I can't help myself. Must be the dark side coming out of me to choose him, as I do tend to fall for the bad-boy stereotype. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was fun and I enjoyed the trip. and maybe, there'll be another one to take in the future that's even bigger and more exciting!
