Living Out of Time Live

The former Procul Harem guitarist has this cool CD of him playing for long stretches of time. Robin Trower plays his guitar in some many variety of ways to display different rock tunes and moods. In listening to the opening track, you wonder why he sings on the album when the drummer is enough to break up any monotany from the tracks. The multiple ways you hear what he is playing, you could also imagine him entertaining this live crowd with finger tricks and body movements while playing certain notes. There are plenty of reasons to listen to this solo guitarist perform, but his singing on each track is a bit unnecessary. He takes away from the overall art and skill he posses on this instument. I understand that most blues artists sing about different subjects (i.e. love, death, and such things), but Robin need not sing vocals to give this type of help to have the album be successful. For the blues and rock lover, or even just a fan of instrumentalists, someone could just vibe to his sound and just tune out the vocals like I did. Overall, he does not sound bad, but just allow the guitar and other supporting instruments to capture the audience and maybe talk through instruction in between songs.
