Make Believe
Out of the book of mysterious musical lore comes the previously unreleased 1974 album from "Platinum Weird," entitled "Make Believe." The band includes well-known Eurythmics member, Dave Stewart, and the elusive vocalist, Erin Grace. Stewart had a stormy relationship with Grace prior to her disappearance from the music scene and effectively, Stewart's life. Grace remerged years later and the band reunited. "Make Believe" is now being released by Interscope Records and was executive produced by Elton John. The first track has Grace on vocals and Stewart on guitar. Grace's haunting voice echoes such lyrics as, "And it feels like I've been dying here underneath these sheets; it's a cold cold world...so if I believe, then tell me please, when the rain comes down, will you be around?" The second track has drum work from ex-Beatle, Ringo Starr, and quite depressing lyrics like, "What kind of river won't let me drown/what kind of life have I found?...it's hard to face the future when you're movin' backwards, I've got lonely eyes and they've seen better days, I've been lost before, but not without a trace; what I'm looking for is somewhere in my past and these lonely eyes will never take me back." This album, by a band with such a rich history and loads of mystery behind it, is definitely one to pick up if you are looking for thoughtful lyrics, and a vocalist who digs deep inside of herself for hauntingly memorable lyrics.
