The sophomore album "Men & Mascara" by country jem Julie Roberts, is a collection of 12 emotion-filled tracks, four of which Roberts co-wrote.
"Paint And Pillows," "Smile," "Too Damm Young," "Men & Mascara," "First To Never Know," "A Bridge That's Burning," "That Ain't A Crime", the lovely and warm-hearted "Mama Don't Cry" and my favorite "All I Want Is You" sung with such deep and gorgeous inner-sadness, and strength, allowed me to drift inside myself for some personal reflection. These songs aren't sweet and pretty looking cookies to suck down with a glass of milk; they're about the kind of songs that smack you hard in the gut because of the raw, human stories behind them. And the key ingredients that make the songs work are strong and believable lyrics, Roberts' ability to sing about them with genuine feeling and the solid music that guides you along the journey.
Julie Roberts "Men & Mascara" is a special kind of album, an album a listener can connect with.
