Miklos Rozsa

This classic recording with Charles Gerhardt and the National Philharmonic is a wonderful compilation of classic suites of themes by Miklos Rozsa. All the music is from the classic days of Hollywood epics. Nine films are represented with gorgeous orchestral suites which include The Red House, Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Ivanhoe and Spellbound among others. The Red House uses some mystical thermin sounds and is a great open to the album. Spellbound is a classic theme and the performance is top notch. The overture to Ivanhoe triumphantly finishes off the album and all the scores here show off Dr. Rozsa's capability of scoring not only the big Biblical epics he was famous for but these different genres as well.
