Julie Jorlamo is your run-of-the-mill, all-American girl living and waitressing in Los Angeles. A size 12, she finds herself always trying to compete with the armloads of blonde, silicone-enhanced, wannabe starlets for a little attention.

Her life is pretty much normal until she accidentally discovers that Chad Downing, famous actor, lives in her building. She soon finds herself wondering why this actor would live in her slum of a building to accidentally getting caught up in his life. After a night spent throwing back one too many mixed drinks, she is hungover manages to lose her dog Riley. Of all places, he turns up in Chad's apartment!

Julie is photographed leaving his apartment that morning, still in her pajamas, and suddenly everyone thinks she is Chad's girlfriend. Chad's agent convinces them both to go along with it, saying that it will be good for Chad's image to be seen with a normal girl who actually eats.
