The Naked Brothers Band grows up

Brothers and former Nickelodeon stars Nat and Alex Wolff have released their first album since shedding their Naked Brothers Band name, and it’s surprisingly not that bad.

The Wolff boys have put their Nickelodeon days behind them and have managed to create an album, called Black Sheep, that helps lead them in a more sophisticated direction.

The album opens with “Illuminated,” which kicks things off right. Arguably one of the best songs on the album, “Illuminated” shows listeners that the Wolff brothers are no longer the little kids they used to see on The Naked Brothers Band.

“Maybe” is a track that displays the kind of songwriting that has evolved throughout the boys’ music careers. With lyrics like, “Maybe there’s a reason/ I stand in your presence/ I see you’re unhappy/ I can tell/ Maybe this is living/ Staring without moving/ Our signs are still vital/ We’re alive,” it’s easy to see that the brothers have matured.

In every young person’s album, there’s bound to be an angst-filled teenage punk song. In this album, that song is “18.” The duo sings about growing up, moving out and causing trouble. Overall, it’s not a bad song; it’s just not that original.

All in all, Black Sheep is worth a listen for those who are familiar with Nat and Alex Wolff’s previous work. Be sure to pick up your own copy when the album is released October 11.
